A few weeks ago the General Medical Council announced new guidelines for cosmetic surgeons and practitioners. Among other new rules, the guidelines outlined that patients must not be rushed or pressured into surgery. The rules also stipulated that procedures and any associated risks must be explained by the surgeon. These guidelines are already in force at Frati Cosmetic Surgery and form part of our consultation process.
Why is the Consultation so Important?
Your cosmetic surgery consultation will allow you to meet with Dr Frati in person. The aim of this meeting is to put you at ease and ensure you feel comfortable and confident about your procedure.
When you arrive you will be asked to fill in a questionnaire and provide some medical information. This is nothing too daunting and just helps us to build up a picture of your background.
You will then meet Dr Frati and you will have the opportunity to explain the procedure you’re interested in and what you are trying to achieve. We encourage you to bring any related photographs to the meeting, to provide us with a full picture of your goals and expectations. Dr Frati will give you an honest opinion about whether your request can be achieved and the likely outcome. It is possible that the changes you are requesting may not be appropriate for your build, frame or aesthetic. If not, Dr Frati will explain this in detail. Similarly, if there is a more suitable option for you he will go through this.
During the consultation Dr Frati will carry out a physical examination and determine your physical and emotional suitability for surgery. Assuming you are a suitable candidate, he will go through the procedure with you in detail. He will discuss the likely outcomes and what to expect on the day. Any side effects and possible risks will also be discussed with you at length.
The consultation is also an opportunity for you to discuss any concerns you have and raise any questions. We are used to answering lots of questions and can hopefully put your mind at ease.
After the consultation Dr Frati recommends a cooling off period to allow you to take stock and think carefully about the choices. If you decide to go ahead with the surgery he recommends a second consultation.
