The majority of our patients are women. However, we have noticed a steady increase in the number of men requesting procedures over the last few years. This is a trend that seems likely to continue. There are a several reasons for this. A number of high profile celebrities have spoken openly about their treatments in recent years. In fact, cosmetic surgery in general has become far more mainstream, due to celebrity culture and the subject being openly discussed in reality TV shows. Changes in perception of male grooming have also changed.
The surgery most frequently requested by men is Gynaecomastia or chest reduction. This is followed by Vaser Liposuction and then Blepharoplasty or eye bag removal.
Male chest reduction is requested where the patient has excess fat and breast tissue in the chest area. This is known colloquially as ‘man boobs’ or ‘moobs’. This tissue is notoriously difficult to shift, even with a healthy diet and exercise. For some men it is a source of distress and embarrassment.
Chest reduction surgery removes the excess fat and tissue to create a flatter, more contoured area. This is a straightforward procedure that can often be completed in one to two hours.
Vaser Liposuction is another straightforward treatment. The ease and speed at which it can be completed has earned it the nickname ‘Lunchtime Lipo’.
Vaser Lipo is often requested to create more definition in certain areas. For example, it can help create a ‘six pack’ effect to the abdomen. If applied to the arms, it can make them appear sleeker and more toned. Or, if applied to the neck and under the chin, it can create a stronger, more defined jawline.
Blepharoplasty surgery is tailored to the individual patient, depending on their needs. It can be performed on the upper or lower eyelids or on both. This surgery can diminish eye bags and sagging and give the face a more youthful appearance.
Reasons provided by our male patients for undergoing cosmetic surgery are similar to those provided by women. They want to make the most of their appearance and correct any areas that cause them distress. In addition they report wanting to retain a youthful appearance for as long as possible.
Patients who have undergone surgery or aesthetic procedures report feeling happier and more self-confident after the procedure has taken place.
Prior to any treatment, Dr Frati evaluates the patient to assess his or her suitability for surgery. This is to ensure they are both physically and emotionally fit for surgery.
