Preparation

The Breast Augmentation Procedure

Breast augmentation surgery is performed as an outpatient procedure, which means you will go home the same day as your surgery. The entire procedure usually takes about two hours, but it may take longer depending on the individual case.

Before surgery begins, you will be given general anesthesia to keep you comfortable. Once you are asleep, Dr. Frati will make an incision in the area of your breast that he has determined will give you the best results and minimal scarring.

He will then place the implants into position and close the incisions with dissolvable stitches. A surgical bra will be placed over your chest to support the implants as they heal.

Once we have observed you for a few hours after surgery, you will be able to go home with someone to take care of you. It is important that you have someone stay with you for at least the first night so that they can help you with anything you need.

Recovery After Breast Augmentation in Birmingham

You will likely feel some discomfort after surgery, but this can be controlled with medication. You will also have drains placed under your skin to collect any excess fluid. These drains will be removed within a week or two.
