Breast Augmentation London
Conveniently located to serve the areas of London and Manchester
Breast augmentation is a surgical procedure that enhances the size of a patient’s breasts. While this is typically achieved through the placement of a synthetic implant, a fat transfer can also be performed to add volume to the breasts. (1) Women choose to undergo breast augmentation for numerous reasons including to restore volume loss from pregnancy and breastfeeding, to create balanced proportions for a curvaceous body, and to improve the fit of clothing.
Dr Riccardo Frati has helped many London women to achieve larger, more attractive breasts that suit their desires and their lifestyle. Life in an image-conscious capital is demanding, and Dr Frati believes that women deserve every advantage to live a satisfying life. He works individually with each patient to understand their goals and develop a personalised plan for breast augmentation. If you are interested in learning more about this popular procedure, and if it may be right for you, contact us today at our London offices in Marylebone by calling +44 20 3633 2619, or through our online contact form.

About
Breast augmentation is also known as augmentation mammaplasty, or more commonly as a “boob job.” And although it’s an extremely popular procedure, it’s also major surgery that requires careful consideration and a skilled plastic surgeon for optimal outcomes. Nevertheless, according to the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, it is the most frequently performed aesthetic surgery in the UK. Today’s women have more options than ever for enhancing their breasts, and the procedure can be customized to the look and feel a patient desires.
Breast Implants: Silicone or Saline?
Silicone implants are the most popular type of implants, and Dr Frati uses Mentor implants, which are considered the gold standard in silicone implants. These implants offer a stable, cohesive shape that mimics the look, feel, and movement of natural breast tissue. These implants are pre-filled with silicone gel and are covered by a lifetime replacement guarantee in the rare case of complications.
Saline Implants have an outer silicone shell that is positioned in the breast pocket and then filled with a sterile salt-water solution during surgery. As a result, smaller incisions are required, and the body is able to safely absorb the saline in case of rupture.
Breast Implant Options in London
Round vs. Teardrop-Shaped
Round implants add a more prominent fullness in both the upper and lower breast, providing a visibly curvier, and fuller look. Teardrop implants offer subtle results and are designed to mimic the natural slope of the breast.
Volume
Volume is measured in cubic centimetres (rather than cup size), with a variety of options to choose from. The size of the implant that is right for you will depend on the results you desire, and the amount of breast tissue you currently have. You’ll receive expert guidance during your consultation to ensure that you are able to make an informed decision about how many cc’s will help you achieve your ideal breast size.
Projection
Breast implants come in different profiles, which determine how far the breast will project from the chest. High-profile implants have the most projection, while low-profile implants offer a more subtle effect.
Fat Transfer
Patients that want to avoid using synthetic implants to increase the size of their breasts, and are interested in a more subtle increase in size may be good candidates for augmentation with fat transfer. Fat transfer removes unwanted fat deposits from other areas of the patient’s body, which is then processed and injected into the breasts to achieve a natural augmentation. This can be combined with implants. The grafted fat can help conceal the edges of the synthetic implant for a smoother transition. The fat can also be strategically placed on the inner contours of the breast to improve cleavage.(2)
Candidates
Good candidates for breast augmentation are:
- Adults in good health and at a stable, healthy weight
- Not pregnant or breastfeeding
- Have realistic expectations for what the procedure can achieve
- Not currently undergoing treatment for breast cancer
Breast implants are not considered lifetime devices, so patients should be aware that they will need to undergo additional breast surgery in the future to replace or remove ageing implants. Patients that are interested in natural breast augmentation should have adequate amounts of body fat for transfer to the breasts. Although Dr Frati performs advanced breast augmentation techniques that utilize extremely small incisions, patients should be aware that they may have faint scarring where the incisions were located.

Preparation
You should follow preparation instructions closely to ensure the best outcome possible for breast augmentation.
- Get blood work and any other testing done as instructed.
- Avoid alcohol two weeks prior to surgery.
- Quit smoking at least two weeks prior to surgery.
- Request several days off of work to recover from the procedure.
- Prepare for the first few days of recovery by having prepared food, comfortable clothing, and entertainment on hand, and within easy reach.
- Find a friend or family member who can drive or escort you home and provide support for the first 24 hours after surgery.
- Avoid blood-thinning medications, vitamins, and supplements such as aspirin, ibuprofen, Vitamin E, ginkgo Biloba, garlic, and St. John’s Wort.
Procedure
Breast augmentation surgery takes around one to two hours. After being admitted and meeting with Dr Frati, you’ll be prepped for surgery and administered the appropriate anaesthesia. Breast augmentation can be performed under general anaesthesia or a combination of local anaesthesia with IV sedation. Before beginning the surgery, Dr Frati infiltrates the area with a local anaesthetic solution to ensure that patients remain comfortable in the days following their surgery. Once anaesthetized, Dr Frati will make the required incisions which can be concealed under the natural curves of the breast, around the areola, or if saline implants are being used, in the armpit. He will then create a pocket either underneath the pectoral muscle or the glandular tissues. After the implant has been inserted in the breast pocket and positioned in the ideal location, he will suture the tissue layers of the incised tissue closed one by one. This eliminates any unnecessary tension on the healing incisions and allows for minimal scarring. A protective dressing will be applied to support the breasts, and the patient will be monitored until they are able to be released to their designated caregiver.
Recovery and Results
Breast augmentation surgery typically takes four to six weeks of total recovery, although patients are able to return to most low-impact activities within a week. Discomfort can be managed with the prescribed medication. Swelling and discomfort will improve dramatically over the next few weeks, although patients will need to continue to wear their post-surgical bra as instructed and avoid any strenuous activity for four to eight weeks. As the tissues adjust to the new implants, the breasts will soften and relax into their final, voluminous appearance, which typically takes three to four months.
How Much Does a Breast Augmentation Cost in London?
There are many factors that impact the cost of breast augmentation, and as a result, the total cost will vary slightly from patient to patient. Surgical fees, as well as the cost of the implants, testing, and surgical garments all contribute to the total cost. Harley Surgery provides an approximate cost estimate following the patient’s personal consultation.
