Upper Blepharoplasty

Conveniently located to serve the areas of London and Manchester

Upper blepharoplasty, or an upper eyelid lift, is a cosmetic procedure that tightens the skin and enhances the appearance of the upper eyelids. A loss of taut skin elasticity and fatty tissue can contribute to an aged, tired look in a patient. During an upper eyelid lift, sagging skin, wrinkles, eye bags, and excess fat are carefully removed from the area for a more youthful, awake, and alert look.

Dr Riccardo Frati is one of London’s leading cosmetic surgeons. He has achieved this status by utilising leading technological developments and specialising in personalised patient care. If you want to rejuvenate your skin and retain a youthful, vibrant look, then we welcome you to schedule a consultation today at Harley Surgery. Alternatively, if you have further inquiries, please call our London or Manchester offices at +44 20 3633 2619 or +44 16 1327 2139, respectively.

About Blepharoplasty

The skin of the eyelids is incredibly delicate. Natural ageing processes, our genetics, and environmental factors can either accelerate or decelerate the way we age, and sagging skin in the upper eyelids is common. Over time, this can become unsightly and cause health complications for patients such as poor peripheral vision. (1) Correcting these issues allows patients to minimise these functional complications while giving them a new, younger-looking appearance that they can be happy and proud of.

Dr Frati’s extensive experience in facial rejuvenation procedures means that he understands the delicate intricacies of facial tissues and can rely on this information to produce effective results. Eyelid sagging is a frustrating feature that, in many cases, leads to those around you perceiving you as older than you are. No one should have to bear this burden, and you deserve to live life feeling like your best, youngest, most vibrant self. Book an appointment at Harley Surgery to begin your journey to your most beautiful self.

Benefits

  • Improved Aesthetics: Patients achieve a more youthful appearance by eliminating sagging skin and fat deposits around the eyelids.
  • Enhanced Vision: By removing excess skin that obstructs peripheral vision, the procedure can aid in restoring full visual function.
  • Natural-Looking Results: Skilled surgeons like Dr. Frati ensure results that look balanced and natural, complementing each patient’s unique facial structure.
  • Reduced Signs of Ageing: The procedure effectively diminishes wrinkles, fine lines, and puffiness around the eyes, allowing for a fresher look.
  • Boosted Self-Confidence: Many patients feel more confident and empowered after their surgery, positively impacting their social interactions and mental well-being.
  • Minimal Scarring: With careful incision placement within the eyelid crease, any resulting scars tend to be discreet and nearly invisible.
  • Quick Recovery: Most patients report relatively short recovery times, often resuming normal activities within a week or two.
  • Long-Lasting Outcomes: Once healed, the results of an eyelid lift can lead to long-lasting improvements in one’s appearance.

Candidates

Upper blepharoplasty procedures are open to all men and women who are not content with their current appearance and experience eyelid droopiness or hooded eyelids that may or may not affect their field of vision. Patients who best respond to the procedure are those who are in generally good health, do not smoke, are between the ages of 18 and 65, and are articulate and realistic about the changes they want to make.

Personal Consultation

Meeting with Dr Frati is crucial to receiving the most effective results from your treatment. Discussing your motivations behind pursuing an upper blepharoplasty allows him to form a personal connection to your case and tailor your procedure to match your lifestyle and natural appearance. Dr Frati may administer some tests to evaluate your tear production, field of vision, and eye dryness. (2)Additionally, your medical history and current health status will also be reviewed to minimise the risk of complications during your procedure.

Preparation

Once your upper blepharoplasty has been planned and scheduled, Dr Frati and his care team will provide you with the necessary preparation instructions. These may include:

  • Altering or ceasing your medications: Some medications may cause complications during your procedure and recovery. Dr Frati will instruct you on what you can and cannot take while he reviews your medical history. It will be important to avoid blood-thinning medications and any other compounds that have these effects; like vitamin E, aspirin, ibuprofen, and alcohol.
  • Avoiding nicotine consumption: Nicotine and other chemicals in cigarettes have properties that negatively affect healing. It is best to quit before your procedure and avoid these risks altogether.
  • Planning transportation: Your eyes will be obscured after your procedure, so you will not be able to drive. Employing the assistance of a friend or family member to transport you to and from your procedure and help you navigate your home is highly recommended.
  • Filling your prescriptions: Dr Frati will prescribe some pain medications and antibiotics to assist in your healing. We recommend acquiring these before your procedure so they are readily available.

Carefully following these instructions and those provided by Dr Frati will ensure a safe, effective, and satisfying recovery. If you have any questions, please discuss these at your consultation or call one of our offices.

Procedure

Once you have been effectively prepared for your procedure with anaesthesia, Dr Frati will carefully make the required incisions to begin your upper blepharoplasty. These incisions will normally follow the eyelids’s natural contours and creases to reduce scarring and provide convenient access to the targeted tissues. Excess, sagging skin and surplus fatty tissue will be carefully removed from the eyelids and surrounding skin as your new appearance is carefully sculpted. (1)

Upper eyelid lifts focus on tightening the skin and muscles around the eyes with surgical techniques. However, Dr Frati may incorporate non-surgical techniques to achieve the desired results. Botox injections and dermal fillers may be added to increase the surface area beneath the wrinkled skin. This will be achieved by adding a filler medium or initiating the production of hyaluronic acid and collagen to grow tissue. Dr Frati also offers FaceTite, a minimally invasive surgery that tightens the skin, removes jowls, lifts the eyes, and more. This procedure or techniques borrowed from it may be incorporated into your procedure plan to obtain optimal results.

Recovery

Carefully listening to and following Dr Frati’s recovery instructions is vital to ensuring successful results from your upper blepharoplasty. You will receive a topical ointment to place on your sutures. This will keep the incisions covered, moist, and free of bacteria. If you are prone to dry eyes, we recommend using eye drops or artificial tears as needed. (1) You will experience some swelling and soreness for up to two weeks, but this will fade over time.

It will be beneficial to ice your treatment site. We also recommend forming the habit of sleeping with your face up for a few weeks before your procedure as it will be required during your recovery. This specifically means sleeping on your back with your face upward; even sleeping on your side can shift fluids and complicate your swelling and recovery. (1) You will also experience some numbness in your eyelids and brows in the first two months. If this does not fade after three or four months, please contact Dr Frati.

Results

After your upper eyelid lift, the skin around your eyes will be tighter and more youthful-looking. For patients whose vision was obstructed by their drooping skin, you should notice clearer vision and no longer need to tilt your head to compensate for the obstructions.
