Breast uplift surgery, Dr Frati

For some women, life events such as pregnancy and breast feeding, rapid weight loss and natural ageing can lead to a loss of fullness in the breasts. The lift and shape of the breasts can also be compromised and this can leave some, feeling self-conscious and uncomfortable to wear certain clothing or swimwear.

Dr Riccardo Frati, a fully qualified cosmetic surgeon, offers breast uplift surgery (or mastoplexy) to rectify this concern, from his Harley Street clinic.

Mastopexy, is a cosmetic procedure, where excess skin is removed so that the remaining skin can be tightened and the nipple moved to a higher position, resulting in a firmer appearance. The skin can be removed from underneath the breast or around the areola (the dark tissue around your nipple). Many women who opt for mastopexy are happy with the size of their breasts. However, you can also combine breast uplift surgery with a breast enlargement or breast reduction procedure to achieve the aesthetic results you want.

What can breast lift surgery correct?

Mastoplexy is an effective and appropriate treatment for the following concerns:

  • Drooping or sagging breasts
  • A lack of firmness
  • Nipples pointing downwards
  • Changes to the appearance following weight loss

How do I know if I am suitable for breast lift surgery?

As with any cosmetic treatment, it is essential to have a consultation with Dr Frati so that he can examine you and take a medical history, to ensure you are fit and healthy for surgery. He will also discuss in detail, your concerns and reasons for considering the procedure, the options open to you and the final results expected.

What happens during the procedure?

During the procedure Dr Frati will make several incisions on your breasts to remove and tighten the skin. You may have opted to have a breast reduction at this stage to give your desired end result. Your nipples will be re-positioned and sometimes the areola area around your nipple will be reduced in size to suit your new breast shape. it will usually take around two hours under general anaesthetic. An overnight stay in hospital may be required but this will be discussed with Dr Frati in consultation.

What happens after surgery?

Following the surgery, your breasts will feel swollen and sore to begin with so Dr Frati provide pain relief to help with any discomfort. Dr Frati will have already talked to you about recovering at home after your mastoplexy, so you’ll know how much time to take off work (usually two weeks), what kind of bra to wear for the first month or so, and when you can resume your normal activities such as exercise and lifting heavier objects. You’ll need to come back to the clinic within two weeks to have your stitches removed. Dr Frati will also check on your overall progress.

When will I see results?

As this is an invasive surgical procedure, you will see immediate results, however, it may take a few months for your breasts to settle into their new shape and for the scars to start fading. It is important to be patient, to rest and eat well so that your body can recover and heal from the surgery. Taking care of yourself following treatment is as important as the surgery itself.
