Nose jobs are on the increase in the UK. According to a recent medical report, 4,205 Rhinoplasty surgeries were performed last year (2015); an increase of 14% from the previous year. In 2015 a record number of over 51,000 Britons underwent some form of cosmetic surgery. Surgeons believe that this increase is due in part to A List celebrities talking openly about their surgeries and their positive outcomes.
As the central feature of the face the nose affects the whole appearance. For some people it can be a source of distress and embarrassment and can lead to issues with low confidence and low self-esteem. Problems with the size or shape of the nose, whether this is due to it being too large or too small, or the existence of a bump or a bulbous tip, may be addressed by surgery.
Similarly, if you have experienced a facial injury that has resulted in changes to your nose or if you suffer from breathing difficulties then Rhinoplasty may provide a solution.
As with any procedure Dr Frati will undergo a full assessment to discuss the options available to you and the likely outcomes. This will include addressing your age and your physical and emotional health. Though there is no upper age limit for rhinoplasty Dr Frati recommends waiting until patients are at least 18 years of age before undergoing surgery to ensure the nose has fully developed.
There are two main procedures for performing rhinoplasty, ‘open’ and ‘closed’. Open surgery is where some or all of the cuts are made to the outside of the nose and closed surgery is where cuts are made inside the nose. Dr Frati will discuss which procedure will best suit your needs.
As with any surgery there will be a period of recovery and recuperation. The length of this will depend on your surgery and will be discussed in advance. Directly after surgery your nose will be in a splint, which is usually removed after seven days. Bruising will occur and you will experience some pain but this can be controlled by pain killers.
For the majority of people rhinoplasty helps them to achieve the look they have desired and helps to restore confidence in their physical appearance.
