Breast Uplift After Weight Loss Dr Riccardo Frati of Harley Surgery

A breast uplift is a procedure designed to physically elevate sagging breasts; this procedure can be particularly beneficial to patients who have lost weight, as sagging breasts often result from a loss of volume. Weight loss, be it through diet and exercise, medications, or surgery, is often an achievement that greatly benefits one’s health and confidence. However, many patients find that their breasts appear deflated after achieving weight loss, leading to dissatisfaction and discontent.

Dr Riccardo Frati of Harley Surgery works with patients from all over the world to address these changes.

Dr Frati is an internationally renowned plastic surgeon who has undergone world-class training under master surgeons to deliver exceptional results. About Breast Uplifting After Weight Loss

A breast uplift can be performed to effectively help women address the appearance of their breasts after experiencing the physical changes associated with weight loss.

The breasts are composed primarily of glandular tissue and fat. As we age, the elasticity of our skin diminishes; for women, this often causes the breast tissue to sag. When the volume of the breasts is reduced through weight loss, many women are left with loose, non-retracting skin and, in turn, sagging, deflated breasts. (1)

About Weight Loss

Weight loss is often a key aspect of one’s health journey, whether they are actively experiencing health-related conditions or simply want to prioritise their long-term health. For patients who are obese, weight loss can be life-changing. Obesity is a health epidemic that not only continues to worsen each year, but has become the second most preventable cause of death after smoking. (2)

As many patients choose to live a healthier lifestyle, whether that is through exercise and dieting, weight-loss medications, or weight loss surgery, their bodies can undergo many physical changes. One of the most commonly experienced is the development of loose, excess skin that does not retract. Inelastic skin can leave a patient with a deflated or flattened appearance, especially around the breasts. Dr Frati can address these changes with a breast uplift after weight loss, allowing patients to restore more youthful-looking breasts.

Benefits

Deciding to undergo a breast uplift after significant weight loss comes with numerous benefits, including:

  • Enhanced Breast Shape: A breast uplift can restore one’s natural contours, resulting in a more aesthetically pleasing breast shape.
  • Improved Nipple Positioning: Dr Frati can reshape and reposition the nipples and areola during the procedure to ensure they sit at a more flattering position.
  • Increased Self-Esteem: Many women report a boost in confidence and improved body image following surgery.
  • Better Clothing Fit: Women often find it easier to fit into different styles of clothing after the procedure, allowing for a wider variety of fashion choices.
  • Elimination of Excess Skin: This procedure removes redundant skin that stretches due to weight loss, offering a firmer appearance.
  • Long-Lasting Results: With healthy lifestyle choices, the results of a breast uplift can last for years to come.
  • Customizable Treatment Options: Each technique can be tailored to individual body types and cosmetic goals.

Suitable Candidates

All candidates interested in a post-weight loss breast uplift should be in good overall health, free from any underlying medical conditions. Patients should have realistic expectations of the outcomes, and should be nonsmokers or willing to stop using nicotine several weeks before their procedure.

Individuals who receive this treatment are typically women who have undergone a significant weight change and have achieved a maintainable, stable weight after doing so. Those experiencing deflated or sagging breasts are highly encouraged to undergo this procedure, as well as anyone with disproportionately low or malpositioned areolae. Dr Frati will determine each patient’s eligibility for this procedure during their personal consultation.

Personal Consultation

The first step in a breast uplift is a consultation with Dr Frati. He will ask the patient about their medical history, concerns, and aesthetic goals during this consultation, as well as perform an examination. Dr Frati will then use this information to create a treatment plan, recommending the best surgical strategies to help them achieve their desired figure.

Preparation

Dr Frati will provide a set of preparation guidelines to each patient. These instructions will vary between patients depending on the details of their procedure, but each one should be followed for the most optimal results. Dr Frati may advise patients to avoid taking certain medications or supplements, especially ones that could thin the blood. Consuming alcohol or nicotine should be ceased several weeks in advance. Prescriptions and medications should be picked up, and time away from work and other commitments should be taken to focus on recovering.

Procedure

Upon arrival, each patient is taken to a private room, where their skin is cleansed and sanitised. Anaesthesia is then administered for their comfort and relaxation. Dr Frati will begin the procedure by making incisions in the breasts.

As this procedure is performed on those with severe ptosis and excess skin, the anchor incision is most often used. (3) This incision encircles the areola and extends down the breast toward the breast crease, and extends horizontally across the breast crease. Dr Frati will then excise the excess breast tissue from the area. He will then elevate the breasts and reposition them to achieve a more contoured and lifted appearance. If necessary, he will also reshape and reposition the areolas. Once ideal results are achieved, Dr Frati will close the incisions. The patient will be monitored after the procedure under the careful watch of our expert nurses.

Recovery

After the monitoring period, the patient will be released home to continue resting. During recovery, it is essential to follow all steps and directions provided by Dr Frati to ensure the best possible results. He will provide a compression garment for the patient to wear as they heal. This garment is designed to help minimise any swelling and maintain the new sculpt.

Patients are asked to rest throughout their initial healing period, but many can return to their careers within one to two weeks. However, physical activities or more intensive tasks should be avoided for several more weeks. Dr Frati will provide more personalised instructions to each patient once their procedure plan has been established.

FAQ

Is there a difference between a regular breast uplift and a breast uplift after weight loss?

After significant weight loss, many patients are left with inelastic, excess skin and fat. The amount of tissue removed will be noticeably different from that of a breast uplift on a non-weight-loss patient.

How long will my breast uplift recovery take?

Most patients can return to normal activities within two weeks; however, full recovery may take longer. Dr Frati will provide individualised guidance during follow-up visits.

Will there be much scarring after my breast uplift?

While scarring is inevitable with any surgical procedure, Dr Frati takes great effort and care to place incisions in places to minimise visibility. Over time, these scars will fade greatly.

Are there any risks associated with a breast uplift?

As with any surgical procedure, there are both common and rare risks involved. Dr Frati will discuss these risks with each patient during their personal consultation.

Can my breast uplift be combined with another procedure?

Yes, each patient is welcome to combine their procedure with another for more comprehensive results. Many weight loss patients often choose to combine their breast uplift with other body-contouring procedures, such as tummy tucks or liposuction.
