Fat Transfer, Dr Frati

Fat transfer, also known as fat grafting or fat injections is a natural and minimally invasive treatment for those wishing to augment, contour and define areas on the body where they feel they have lost shape and volume. These can be areas such as the breasts, buttocks and backs of the hands. Fat transfer is also an effective way to combat lines and wrinkles on the face and is seen as a more natural alternative to synthetic fillers.

Dr Riccardo Frati offers all forms of fat transfer from his Harley Street Clinic in London and is an expert at delivering this treatment with excellent results.

How does fat transfer work?

Fat is firstly removed, using VASER liposuction or Micro Lipo, from various parts of the body where there is a substantial amount such as the buttocks, thighs and abdomen. Once the fat has been collected, it is then centrifuged or purified to separate the healthy fat cells from the damaged ones. These, healthy cells can then be injected in to the area of the body that is lacking in volume.

How do I know if I am suitable for fat transfer?

Prior to any treatment, Dr Frati will offer a comprehensive consultation to discuss your concerns and requirements. He will also conduct a medical history to ensure you are physically and emotionally fit to receive treatment. He will also need to see which areas will be suitable to obtain the fat to transfer.

Which areas of the face can be treated with fat transfer?

Generally, anywhere on the face that can be treated with synthetic HA fillers can be treated using fat transfer. These include the lips for volume, cheeks, temples, marionette lines (lines running from mouth to chin), the chin and tear troughs (under the eyes).

What are the advantages of fat transfer over traditional fillers?

Fat transfer is more economical than synthetic fillers in the long-term and not only does the fat graft result in increased, subtle volume, but also improves skin tone and elasticity. This is due to the stem cells contained within your own fat. The results can bring back 5-10 years to the areas treated without looking “overdone”. Only a local anaesthetic is usually necessary which minimises downtime. If you are also considering Vaser Liposuction, fat transfer can be performed at the same time as a combination treatment. Fat transfer is seen as a more natural approach to skin rejuvenation and many people with a concern to take a more natural approach feel more comfortable to undertake this treatment.

Fat transfer for breasts, what results can I expect?

Extracted fat is carefully injected in layers into the breasts to create volume and definition. As both parts of a fat transfer are minimally-invasive without the need for general anaesthetic, no hospital stay is usually required making recovery and downtime far less than traditional breast implant surgery. You will need to have enough fat to transfer for treatment, meaning it is not always suitable for those with low body mass, and we advise all patients to be cautious with their expectations. Breast Fat Transfer will add shape and definition but will not provide a substantial increase in size, however, Dr Frati will advise on the best course of treatment and subsequent results upon consultation.

Fat transfer for the buttocks, what can I expect?

The buttocks can be given a soft enhancement in appearance and volume. The results are subtle, with a natural-looking curve and a more pronounced shape. Providing you are suitable for the procedure, which will be discussed during your consultation, Dr Frati will be able to sculpt the overall shape of your buttock area.

What is the downtime to fat grafting?

Downtime can vary from patient to patient and the areas to be treated, however, you should allow a week or so for any swelling and bruising to settle down. Light make up can be used on the face 24 hours following the procedure to cover any bruises and as with any cosmetic procedure, full aftercare protocol will be explained upon consultation with Dr Frati.
