Breast reduction surgery, Dr Frati

Having large breasts that are out of proportion with the rest of your body can be a painful and emotionally upsetting issue. Overly large breasts can lead to backache, neck pain, painful rashes, sweating and even infections under the breasts, poor posture, unwanted attention or harassment, difficulty in undergoing sports or exercise, depression and a difficulty to find and wear well fitting clothing. Many women suffer in silence as they feel that there is nothing they can do. Fortunately, in most instances this is not the case.

Dr Riccardo Frati offers breast reduction surgery (mammoplasty) for his patients at his Harley Street Clinic. He is a fully qualified cosmetic surgeon with extensive experience in performing this treatment.

How is mammoplasty performed?

Mammoplasty is a surgical procedure which removes excess tissue and skin from the breasts to reduce their weight and volume. During the surgery your breasts will be re-shaped and your nipples will be re-positioned to give the most natural end result.

How do I know if I am suitable for the procedure?

As with any cosmetic treatment, it is essential to have a consultation with Dr Frati so that he can examine you and take a medical history, to ensure you are fit and healthy for surgery. He will also discuss in detail, your concerns and reasons for considering the procedure, the options open to you and the final results expected.

What happens during procedure?

The mammoplasty procedure is carried out under general anaesthetic and takes between two and four hours. There are several boob reduction techniques and the best one for you will depend on the size of your breasts, the results you want to achieve and the decision thatr Dr Frati takes for treatment protocol. Dr Frati will ensure you’re fully aware of what the operation involves for you. The procedure involves removing excess breast tissue and skin via incisions. The remaining breast tissue will be re-shaped to create smaller, more elevated breasts and your nipples will be moved to a new position to complete the procedure.

What happens during recovery?

You will, most likely need to stay in hospital overnight after the surgery so that you can recover from the anaesthetic and be observed by the clinic team. Before you leave the hospital, you will be advised on aftercare and make an appointment with you to return to have your stitches removed. Dr Frati will have already talked to you about how much time to take off work and the need to wear a well-fitting, non-wired support bra to begin with. You’ll also need to avoid strenuous exercise and heavy lifting for six weeks, by which time you should have fully recovered from your breast reduction surgery.

When will I see the results?

As this is a surgical procedure to remove tissue, you will see results immediately, however, your breasts will be swollen and feel tender to start with. Dr Frati provide pain relief to help with any discomfort. You should see the final results within 8 weeks following surgery, having given time for your breasts to settle and any swelling to have disappeared. scarring will usually fade significantly over 12 to 18 months.

What are the emotional and physical benefits of mammoplasty?

Dr Frati knows from all his satisfied patients that your breast reduction surgery can have a positive impact on the way you feel about yourself. The surgery will leave you with smaller breasts and less pain and discomfort in other areas of the body, leaving you to live a happier life with a new found confidence.
