Mummy makeover surgery: Most of us are aware that the body can go through dramatic changes before, during and after having a baby but many don’t realise the significant impact of childbirth on body shape, skin quality and our general wellbeing.
First off, weight gain will almost certainly take its toll, stretching of the skin around the tummy, buttocks, thighs and hips as well as the breasts. But that’s not all! Your womanly assets can become saggy and lack their original ‘pert’ form, leaving you feeling deflated (literally!).
At Dr Frati’s clinics in London and Manchester, we realise that having a baby is a joyous occasion, but the hard work that you put in both physically and emotionally may leave you feeling like you want to make some changes to reach ‘yummy mummy’ status and so we offer a wide-range of surgical treatments to get you feeling gorgeous again.

Breast augmentation after pregnancy
Breast surgery comes in many forms, from enlarging and re-shaping the breasts, to lifting or reducing them, giving them a youthful appearance and helping you fit back in to the clothes that you want to wear as a new and busy mum. Dr Frati is one of the world’s leading experts on all types of breast surgery.
One of the most popular treatments following childbirth is that of breast augmentation after breast feeding, as post-lactation, the breasts may lose their elasticity and reduce considerably in size.
What is a mummy makeover?
The procedure can be a combination of augmentation (using silicone implants to re-volumize the breasts) as well as a breast uplift, where the positioning of the breasts is re-aligned to restore their perky appearance. If you feel that you have gained a lot of weight and your breasts are feeling heavy and sagging, a breast reduction may be on the cards. Nipple re-positioning is also possible.
Your mummy makeover may also combine a tummy tuck and/or liposuction.
All options will be discussed in an initial consultation with Dr Frati, so you have all the information you need in order to make a decision about how to move forward. It’s worth remembering that any surgical intervention is not recommended until you have finished breast feeding. Breast surgery is performed in a hospital environment under a general anaesthetic. However, in most cases, an overnight stay is not required.
Mummy makeover – About the Tummy Tuck
Tummy tuck surgery can restore your post-pregnancy belly to its former glory and reduce any lose skin that may still be present following childbirth. Excess skin in the abdomen is pretty impossible to get rid of with diet and exercise alone, so by surgically removing it, you could regain that hour-glass figure that you had before baby.
There are 2 types of tummy tuck, a partial (or mini) tuck, suitable for patients with a minimal amount of tissue and a full tummy tuck, for larger areas of excess skin and fatty tissue. In both procedures an incision will be made across the lower abdomen. In a mini tuck, muscle tightening or belly button repositioning is usually not necessary. In a full tummy tuck, Dr Frati will address these concerns also.
Abdominoplasty operations are performed under a general anaesthetic and may require 1 to 2 nights in hospital. Recovery can take some time in cases of a full tummy tuck, so it’s worth considering childcare arrangements when looking in to this procedure.
Liposuction
Liposuction surgery can be a perfect solution to remove unwanted subcutaneous fat from the body following childbirth. The surgery involves various techniques, depending on your individual requirements. Dr Frati will discuss these techniques and decide which is suitable for you, in your consultation.
Possible preparation techniques include injecting the area with a solution which contains anaesthetic and medication, then breaking up the fat cells using high frequency vibrations and using a special device to ‘vacuum out’ the unwanted fat.
It’s worth knowing that in this procedure, several incisions may need to be made if a large area is to be treated. Liposuction can work in areas such as the tummy, flanks, buttocks, thighs, hips and waist. It’s usually performed under a general anaesthetic, but smaller areas can be treated under local anaesthetic.
